About Us

Phyliss and JohnJohn Wilkenson and Phyliss Flower, best friends and partners, are the proud owners of Heretic T-shirts®. We'd like to personally welcome you to Heretic T-Shirts online, which features numerous products containing images of some of history’s bravest souls, along with many other images, axioms, slogans, and sayings, including even a few quotes from various United States Supreme Court decisions you can read at Justia.com and/or FindLaw.

Heretic T-Shirts grew out of a conviction that individual freedoms such as the freedom of thought, the freedom of speech, the freedom of religion, the right of self-defense and the freedom of association must be used (per the old “use it or lose it” axiom) regularly if they are to be preserved and remain culturally relevant and beneficial to the individual.

As a child, John’s parents were evangelical missionaries, so John was exposed to many books. Among them was John Foxe’s Book of Martyrs, which had old woodcuts of various early Christian martyrs being put cruelly to death by the dominant control-freak members of the human pecking order (best known by the euphemism “government”) for their heretical beliefs so as to instill fear in the onlookers, along with the rest of society, not to practice and profess the same beliefs. Often tongue screws were bored (without any anesthetic) through the tongues of martyrs into the bottoms of their mouths to keep them from speaking at their executions. Talk about sheer mindless, slavering control-freak hatred for "politically incorrect" speech! Whew! The images of those old woodcuts so deeply impressed young John that they remained stuck in his memory to this day.

Phyliss grew up in a “conservative” (as distinguished from “orthodox” and “reformed”) Jewish family. Her parents’ families both immigrated to America, with the hope of making a better life for their children. Her mother’s family came from Russia, while her father was actually born in Poland.

John and Phyliss met while John was teaching guitar lessons to Phyliss’s then-12-year-old son, Seth. Phyliss liked John’s teaching style and soon started taking lessons herself.

During the course of several years of music lessons, conversations ensued about all kinds of “heavy” subjects, including the “inner game” of playing music, the moral order of the universe, the meaning of life, and individual freedom. At the beginning of their friendship, Phyliss was a “liberal”, anti-gun, agnostic, “touchy-feely” gender feminist. Over the years of their friendship, she had an epiphany and realized the universe around her worked in exactly the opposite way she thought it did. Prior to her epiphany, she was a “left-leaning” groupthink lemming. Since her epiphany, she leans strongly libertarian and is adamantly committed to individual rights and personal freedom.

In our opinion, the recent trendy phenomenon known as “political correctness” poses a hideously dangerous threat to free thought, free speech, and individual freedom in general. In the words of comedian George Carlin, “Political correctness is America’s newest form of intolerance, and it is especially pernicious because it comes disguised as tolerance. It presents itself as fairness, yet attempts to restrict and control people’s language with strict [authoritarian] codes and rules…Political correctness cripples discourse, creates ugly language and is generally stupid.” We agree.

It seemed to both of us that there should be some positive, specific, proactive and interesting things that every INDIVIDUAL can do to defend these precious freedoms. It also seemed that any person who is opposed to the intellectual dishonesty, manipulation, deception and coercion that constitutes “political correctness” is considered to be a “heretic” in some quarters. So be it. Well, we are proud to be “heretics” opposed to the insanely destructive evil of political correctness and the political fraud of One-Ring coercion-based “government”. Thus the “Heretic T-Shirt” idea was born.

If you hate injustice, if you crave healing, if you need to improve your self-esteem, if you believe in liberty and justice, if you yearn for the true brotherhood of man, if you are a dreamer, if you are a truth seeker, or if you just want to know how the "rich keep getting richer” and the “poor keep getting poorer”, or you want to learn how to oppose America’s fascist, neo-feudalist “globalist” police-state “establishment” in the most powerful way possible, Heretic T-Shirts are for you. We have “created tools” which you can use to “make statements” (a little touchy-feely lingo there)  in favor of free speech and individual freedom generally.

“They” say that one picture is worth ten thousand words. Well, Heretic T-Shirts have the pictures, and John’s personal “mashup” website (http://johnwilkenson.com) has all the words and underlying factual and philosophical foundations needed to free your mind of wannabe-clever Orwellian Newspeak that is today’s Goebbelsian police-state “government” propaganda.

We are always interested in feedback, so if you have any questions, comments, requests or ideas for future products, suggestions for the website, or just want to get in touch, please email us at info@hertictshirts.com. We would be especially grateful to be notified of any typos and/or dead links on our website!

We and “the entire Heretic T-Shirts staff” — (actually the two of us ARE "the entire staff", but saying that makes us sound like a really big and self-important “globaltransnational corporation) — really look forward to hearing from you!

Heretically yours,
John Wilkenson & Phyliss Flower
